In the past when you needed to create a flowchart or diagram, you had to open Microsoft Visio on your computer, or whatever software based system you used, and create your document. Then, if you wanted to share it, you would need to email it or put it on the network so other users could get to it.
Now, as long as you have web access, and I know you do or you wouldn’t be reading this, you can simply get online and create all the diagrams you need, share them, collaborate with others on them and do a whole host of other things - often for free. Now you can create, collaborate with others and get your charts done online no matter where you are in the world and no matter what type of computer you are on - as long as you can get to the web!
To help you get your ideas out of your mind, here is a list of great online tools for flowcharting, diagramming and mind mapping! Some tools are more complex than others, but all of them are web based.
- Bubbl.us
- Comapping
- Draw Anywhere
- GE Imagination**
- Gliffy*
- Glinkr
- Idea Tree
- LooseStitch*
- Mapul
- Marici
- Mind 42
- Mindomo
- Mind Meister
- Thinkature
- Project Draw*
- WiseMapping
- WOW - Web Of Web
- Write Maps
*Love their interface! Very easy to use!
**This tool is best for people with a pen input device or superior mouse control skills. You will see what I mean. You wouldn’t really use this for serious flowcharting, but….. it’s too much fun for me to not include.
Flowchart.com is a tool that could possibly be on this list in the future, but they are in an invite only beta test right now. I won’t suggest this in the list because it’s not publicly available yet, but if you want to sign up for it you can click here.
There is also a super site with information on mind mapping software. This site is absolutely enormous and it allows you to search for flowcharting, mind mapping and diagramming tools and filter by your operating system. It is an incredible resource if you are trying to find software specific to your operating system. You can also narrow your search to web based tools. This site is called Mind Mapping.org. The creator of this, Vic Gee, site put a lot of effort into putting together a great resource for all of us.
Enjoy!
